Cut across the distal end of the ribs, and through the clavicles and remove parts of the ribs that can readily be cut out.  Don't remove the sternum connecting the two sets of ribs in the midline lying above the top of the heart since there are blood vessels right below it that we want to preserve.  Look at the position of the heart within the thorax and note its relationship to the lung.<br><br>
