PULMONARY DRUG DELIVERY

Inhalable microparticles are an attractive option for pulmonary drug delivery: They deliver drugs directly into the lung which decreases the total dose requirement and often diminishes side effects as compared to enteral or parenteral delivery. Our lab is interested in developing local drug delivery systems for the therapy of cystic fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension. The ultimate goal of this project is an inhalable microparticulate drug delivery system capable of providing (i) efficient local medication delivery with minimal systemic side effects, (ii) prolonged effect to reduce the dosing frequency, and (iii) easy way of administration.
