Modes

DNA ciliate can switch three mode in micrometer-sized track: the free moving mode, the tracks walking mode, the light-irradiated gathering mode.
To achieve these modes, we did following things.


The free moving mode

  • Observation of Brownian motion of DNA ciliate
We observed whether 200nm and 1um diameter DNA ciliate moves by Brownian motion or not. We used phase-contrast microscope for the observation.


The track walking mode

  • Confirmation of deoxyribozyme activity of DNA ciliate (completed in DNA ciliate body)
  • Construction of DNA tracks (completed in micrometer-sized DNA track)
  • Confirmation that DNA ciliate moves to intended direction by simulation
We confirmed activity of deoxyribozyme legs of DNA ciliates(on DNA ciliate body page), so next we confirmed directional walking on DNA track of DNA ciliates. We confirmed this by simulation.


The light-irradiated gathering mode

  • Designing of UV-switching system (completed in DNA Devices)
  • Confirmation of UV-switching system (completed in DNA Devices)
  • Confirmation of gathering of DNA ciliates
We confirmed UV-switching DNA device worked as intended on DNA devices page. In this page, we confirmed the trapping ability of DNA. We attached complementary strands of deoxyribozyme on a spot, which equal to open state of the UV-switching devive, and observed whether DNA ciliates gather at the place.
