Objective

  1. Stock Solution Prep
  2. Prepare New Citrate Nanoparticles
  3. Prepare New Reaction

Description

  1. Stock Solutions
    • Ideally the concentration of the nanoparticles needs to be increased from 20.8 nM to 20.8 mM. In order to increase the concentration, the diameter of the nanoparticles needs to be increased. Increasing the initial concentration of HAuCl4, NaBH44, and Sodium Citrate will hopefully allow for an increase in nanoparticles
      • 4% wt HAuCl4 = 0.4 g HAuCl4 in 10 mL H2O
      • 38.8 mM Sodium Citrate = 0.11728 g Sodium Citrate in 10 mL Ho
      • 0.3% wt NaBH4 = 0.012 g NaBH4 in 5 mL 38.8 mM Sodium Citrate
  2. Citrate Nanoparticles
    • 2 mL 4% wt HAuCl4
    • 4 mL 38.8 mM Sodium Citrate
    • 0.3% wt NaBH4
    • The concentration of the HAuCl4 was too high causing the gold to clump in solution.
      • Another batch was made by just doubling the original amounts added based on March 17, 2015
    • 90 mL H2O to 100 mL volumetric flask
    • Add 2 mL 1% wt HAuCl4 and stir for 1 minute
    • Add 4 mL 38.8 mM Sodium Citrate and stir for 1 minute
    • Add 2 mL 0.075% wt. NaBH4 and stir for 5 minutes
    • The solution turned a deep burgundy/purple after the addition of 2 mL 0.075% NaBH4
  3. New Reaction
    • A new reaction was setup as described on February 10,2015.
    • 2 mmol 30% H2O2 was added instead of 1 mmol
    • 2 mL Citrate AuNPs added
