Research Interests

  • Pharmacokinetics: Altered drug metabolism during pregnancy; preclinical drug development; gut microbiota as a drug-eliminating organ
  • Molecular Pharmacology: Regulation of hepatic drug-metabolizing enzymes
  • Pharmacogenomics: Pharmacogenomics of drug-metabolizing enzymes
  • Toxicology: Role of gut microbiota in determining drug efficacy and toxicity

  • Sungjoon's poster abstract submitted to 2017 Liver Meeting was selected as a Presidential Poster of Distinction. This is an honor given to the top 10% of scored abstracts. Sungjoon's poster is entitled: Commensal gut microbiota modulates susceptibility to acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity. (Oct 2017)
  • Young was appointed Associate Head for Research in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Young stepped down from the Director of Graduate Education position (August 2017)
  • Young received a R01 entitled "Molecular basis of altered drug metabolism during pregnancy" from NICHD. This is a translational research project in collaboration with clinicians at Northwestern University and researchers at University of Washington at Seattle. (August 2017)
  • Sungjoon Cho won 2nd place in podia competition at the 48th Pharmaceutics Graduate Student Research Meeting (PGSRM), hosted by the University of Michigan. Congratulations! (June 2017)
