  • Sungjoon received Chancellor’s Graduate Research Award from the UIC Graduate College. Congratulations! (Dec 2017) [1]
  • Sungjoon's poster abstract submitted to 2017 Liver Meeting was selected as a Presidential Poster of Distinction. This is an honor given to the top 10% of scored abstracts. Sungjoon's poster is entitled: Commensal gut microbiota modulates susceptibility to acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity. (Oct 2017)
  • Young was appointed Associate Head for Research in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Young stepped down from the Director of Graduate Education position (August 2017)
  • Young received a R01 entitled "Molecular basis of altered drug metabolism during pregnancy" from NICHD. This is a translational research project in collaboration with clinicians at Northwestern University and researchers at University of Washington at Seattle. (August 2017)

Her poster was entitled "17β-Estradiol (E2) enhances cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2B6 expression via cooperative actions of estrogen receptor (ER) and constitutive androstane receptor (CAR)."   • A collaborate R21 project entitled “Comprehensive studies of novel SNPs affecting Warfarin dose in African Americans” was funded by NHLBI. Jeong lab will characterize functional significance of the identified genetic variations. Dr. Minoli Perera at University of Chicago is the principal investigator of the grant. Other collaborator includes Dr. Larisa Cavallari. (July 2011)
  • Jeong received an R01 grant from NICHD for a project entitled "Altered drug metabolism in pregnancy." (April 2011) [7]
  • A collaborative contract with Dr. Michael Johnson in the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology received a ~$14 million funding from Department of Defense. Jeong lab will perform preclinical characterization for potential antibiotic agents with activity against both Gram-positive (B. anthracis) and Gram-negative (F. tularensis and Y. pestis) CDC Category A bacterial pathogens (February 2011).   • A collaborative project with Dr Michael Johnson in the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology received an R56 one-year bridge funding. Jeong lab will perform preclinical characterization of lead compounds for development of anti-SARS agents. SARS virus was responsible for the 2002 outbreak that produced more than 8,400 confirmed infections with more than 800 reported deaths worldwide and enormous corollary economic damage. (August 2010)
  • A collaborative project entitled “Functional and clinical significance of the CYP2C9*8 allele” was funded by American Heart Association. Dr. Larisa Cavallari is the principal investigator of the grant. (July 2010)
  • Jeong received Valteich Research Award for a project entitled “induction of CYP2D6 expression in pregnancy.” (December 2009)
  • Jeong was selected as a BIRCWH (Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health) scholar. BIRCWH is an NIH-funded training program sponsored by UIC National Center of Excellence in Women's Health and the UIC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. (September 2008)
