Anthony Salvagno 11:15, 12 March 2010 (EST):I thank you for overwriting a file that I am using in my notebook. As you can see at the very bottom of each picture page (see example here and on all images with label Image:Picture_#.png from numbers 1-4) it tells you where the picture is being used. Also it says when you are uploading a file type if a picture with the same name exists and shows you a picture of it. Please be kind enough to email the person you are overwriting, or simply just change the picture name when you upload.

Hi Dr. Dahlquist, I have a question on the assignment for this week. I am currently having a difficult time understanding Part 2 Activity 2 in calculating for Min and Max Difference. In the first table, I was able to use the Clustdist tool with one of my alignments with 3 clones. The page that it took me gave me a screen that looks like this
The problem I have is now calculating for the min difference and the max difference. I am not sure how i am supposed to select the highest and lowest pairwise scores. Do it add up all the distance matrix for the x-coordinate of S2V1-3 and then compare that to the other clones and use the smallest sum and highest sum and those would be my min and max difference after multiplication of 285?
The min distance is the lowest number in the table that is not zero. The maximum distance is the highest number in the table. You are not doing anything to the numbers in the table, you are simply picking the lowest and the highest. You multiply those two numbers by 285.
I am also having a difficult time understanding how to look at the maximum and minimum difference across subjects. The instructions are a bit unclear --Kristoffer T. Chin 00:19, 13 February 2010 (EST)
To do the same thing across subjects, you first need to import and align all the sequences for two subjects. Then run the Clustdist tool. In this case, you are still looking for the lowest number that is not zero and the highest number. However, in this case, you want to take the lowest number from the comparisons that are comparing sequences from the two different subjects, not between sequences from the same subject. The names of the sequences are along the side and top.
Week 1 Feedback
- Kris, you answered all of the questions and demonstrated all of the wiki skills on time, except for two:
- I'd like you to demonstrate how to "comment out" something that you've written. The comments that appear on your user page are the ones that were automatically put there when your account was created.
- Also, be sure to write a Summary before you save each edit on your page. I only saw one Summary on your history page. This will be important moving forward in this course.
- Here are some suggestions on how to improve the organization/syntax on your page:
- Add the "BIOL398-01/S10" category link to your template so that it is automatically added to your page whenever you use the template.
- Add the list of links to your assignment pages to your template.
- Remove the "I am a new member of OpenWetware" banner off of your user page.
- Remove the introductory material at the top of this Talk page.
- We can also talk a little about suggestions for content on you page in class.
