Objectives

  • get weight of bead batches. start with biggest, as we seem to have smallest amount for it
  • put equal amounts of weight of the 25 % beads in acid ( 6 different batches, pH 3)
  • start filtering 10 %

Data

  • batches:

Acid exchange of 25% beads

  • Create 30 mL of HCl at pH=3
    • 3 mL of 0.1M HCl + 27 mL water
    • pH measured = 3.308
  • Vacuum filtrate the beads that were separated by sizes
  • Weigh about 0.118g of each batch of beads and put them in a separated glass vial
  • Add 5 mL of HCl at pH=3.308 to each vial
  • Table showing detailed measurement

Analyze Carmine dye

  • Stock Solution:
    • Mass of dye: 0.05060g
    • Volume of water: 100 mL
  • Solution used for experiment:
    • 10 mL of stock solution
    • 90 mL of water
  • Run UV-Vis on the solution used for experiment
  • Carmine trendline

Notes

  • the difference between the theoretical weight (filter paper with beads - filter paper) led to too much error ( water evaporation ).

this is why we started weighing the beads and stopped calculating the value.
