ethanol/water Solvent Extraction
At the moment, we will only work on the ACS sample since we want to make sure the process is accurate enough to use the remaining ones.
Phase Separation for ACS
- 5g of ACS5 was added to a125 mL Erlenmeyer flask with a 75/25 ratio of DI water / Ethanol.
- The Erlenmeyer flask with the mixture was put in a VWR Symphony 97043-936 Sonicator for 1h at 25C.
- The ACS mixture was placed in a 125 mL separation funnel for 20h after separation of the two phases.
- ACS5L: Homogeneous yellowish solution
- ACS5S: Porous brown solid
- 2.5g of ACS2 was added to a125 mL Erlenmeyer flask with a 75/25 ratio of DI water / Ethanol.
- The Erlenmeyer flask with the mixture was put in a VWR Symphony 97043-936 Sonicator for 1h at 25C.
- The ACS mixture was placed in a 125 mL separation funnel for 20h after separation of the two phases.
- ACS2L: Homogeneous yellowish solution
- ACS2S: Porous brown solid

NOTES: We will have an appointment on Friday with Dr. Hartings to talk about sample preparation to take ACS2L and ACS5L to the GC/MS.
