Objectives
- Filter, Wash & Dry Clay samples
- Characterize Clays
- Prepare clay supported AuNP using each clay
- Characterize Au/TiO2
- Use Au/TiO2 to selectively oxidize an alcohol
Description
- Filter, Wash & Dry Clay samples
- Instead of filtering the samples, the samples got washed using 10mL of ethanol and 10mL of water for each sample and shook for 20 minutes.
- Each sample were rinsed for a total of 5 times.
- Remainder was spread on watch glasses and dried in oven at 105˚C until not moisture was visible
- Clay was grinned with a pestle & mortar
- Prepare clay supported AuNP using each clay (has not been completed yet)
- 0.3g of clay in small glass vial
- added 3.4E-5mol of HAuCl4
- added 16.6mL of water
- Stirred overnight until solution changed color
- Use Au/TiO2 to selectively oxidize an alcohol
- Placed 0.2g of AuNP in 50mL round bottom flask (rbf)
- Added 0.5g of i-propanol and 4.5g of distilled water
- Filled ballon with ~500mL of O2
- Added 1/2 tea spoon of yeast with 10mL 3% H2O2 in the rbf
- Placed the ballon and let react for a couple of hours (stayed overnight)
Data
- Clay has not been analyzed with UV-VIS so far
- The below graphs represent the X-Ray analysis of the Au/TiO2 sample after
