Objective
- Set up diluted solutions of functionalized gold nanoparticles with java ferns
- Create films of cellulose
Protocol
The gold nanoparticles crashed out of solution during functionalization, so they couldn't be used for java fern testing. Instead, UV Vis was taken to see if any of the nanoparticles stayed in solution to be capped.
I made the cellulose film using the following method:
1%w of hydroxyethyl cellulose and 0.5%w of citric acid was dissolved in 25mL of water, poured in a plastic dish, and left to dry in a 40 °C oven overnight in order to evaporate the water. The next day, it was placed in the oven for 7 minutes at 165 °C to finish the cellulose cross-linking.
