Research Experience

  • Graduate Independent Research: (September 2005 to Present)
    • iGem member for Tianjin University 2007
    • Separation and purification of extract of Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza using resins
    • Applied Fick’s second law for unsteady state diffusion to set up a improved diffusion model for extraction process of Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza and developed Matlab subroutine to evaluate the effective diffusion coefficients
    • Applied Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to optimize extraction efficiency with Central Composite Design (CCD) using Design Expert 7.0
    • Studied the separation and identification of polyphenolics using HPLC/ESI-MSn as well as accurately determined the their contents respectively in Radix Salvia Miltiorrhiza extract
  • Graduate Cooperative Research: (June 2006 to Present)
    • Studied the effects of 16 variables on beta-mannanase production from Bacillus licheniformis TJ-101 and optimized the whole process
    • Developed three nonlinear kinetic models for cell growth, enzyme synthesis and the total sugar utilization
  • Undergraduate research: (September 2003 to June 2005)
    • Studied the effects of various parameters on enzyme-assisted extraction (Bachelor’s thesis)
    • Studied the preparation of nano ferric oxide red pigment from the waste iron mud in dye factory
    • Studied the preparation and characterization of SrFeO3 and LaFeO3, nano-preovskite type oxides with photocatalytic oxidation activity
