- On 5/23, 5mL of H20 was added to the solid product and mixed overnight. The solution was then completely dissolved by the following morning. It was cloudy and viscous. A 5mL sample of the viscous liquid was transferred to a plastic test tube and centrifuged for 1 hour @ 3500rpm @ 4°C. The sample successful gelled under these conditions. The gel was mostly clear with a tiny white pellet formed at the tip of the tube. It was determined that the gel was temperature sensitive. After 15 minutes @ room temp, the gel melted. Additionally, t-butylammonium chloride is hygroscopic, so when the gel was exposed to humid conditions, the rate of melting was greatly increased.
