Day 10: UV Testing and pH Testing

  • On Day 10 we made four samples of tryptophan which was tryptophan 6D, 7D, 8D, and 10D with the D representing the amount of drops of NaOH that were initially put into the samples. We first tested the UV on 6D, 7D, 8D, and 10D and noticed that they all had gold nanoparticles present except 10D which produced a strange graph that may represent that it had gold fibers instead. Then we did pH testing which 6D was a acidic pH of 1.593, 7D was an acidic pH of 1.594, 8D was an acidic pH of 1.512 and 10D was an acidic pH of 1.576. We also tested the sample that was going to be put in the oven and we noticed that even with 10 initial drops of NaOh the sample still had a acidic pH of 1.885. We will test the oven sample after it comes out of the oven next week.
