Mission

Kathleen 17:59, 29 July 2006 (EDT): Do you mean biological sciences and engineering or biological sciences and biological engineering? Isn't biological engineering a biological science? Does it need the separate distinction?

  • BC 09:00, 31 July 2006 (EDT):This was discussed at the retreat and the consensus was that biological engineering is distinct from the biological sciences, just as chemical engineering is distinct from chemistry. Biological sciences were intended to include biology, medicine, ecology etc.

Elections

  • Austin 16:40, 30 July 2006 (EDT): What's the definition of an 'active' user? What group of users are you trying to exclude? It seems like anyone who wants to participate should be allowed to.
    • BC 08:54, 31 July 2006 (EDT):Agreed. For this election, it seems to make the most sense to let everyone vote. The reference to "active" users was unintended. Note that in the future you would want to restrict votes to users who have made contributions, otherwise you are open to someone signing up new users to get more votes. Wikimedia's bylaws give the board the power to stipulate the required contribution to earn a vote as a means to protect against fraudulent voters.
