Mechanical stimulation is a potent anabolic stimulus for bone formation
- Recently we have found that removal of primary cilia in vivo reduces the ability for mice to form bone in response to mechanical load. Furthermore, adenylyl cyclase 6 has been identified as a critical mechanosensing protein, and mice lacking AC6 display impaired load-induced bone formation.
- Milos Spasic is utilizing novel therapeutic strategies to promote skeletal mechanosensing in an effort to develop treatments for bone disease.
Primary cilia are critical for proper skeletal development
- Emily Moore is using unique mouse models to understand the role of the periosteum and primary cilia in skeletal development.
