Mechanical stimulation is a potent anabolic stimulus for bone formation

  • Recently we have found that removal of primary cilia in vivo reduces the ability for mice to form bone in response to mechanical load. Furthermore, adenylyl cyclase 6 has been identified as a critical mechanosensing protein, and mice lacking AC6 display impaired load-induced bone formation.
