Overview

In this activity, we will study the organisms and environment along a gradient from the edge of a marsh to the top of the hill.

Objectives

  • Investigate the relationship between enzyme activity and CO2 release from substrate being decomposed by different species of mushrooms.
  • Create graphical summaries of the findings
  • Enter data into class database

Background

Experimental protocol

We will be using a colorometric method developed by Dr. Steve Allison to measure the activity of enzymes in substrate that it colonized by mushroom mycelia.

We will follow the methods outlined here: experimental protocol
