Nika Vafadari Reflection Questions

  1. The aspect of this assignment that came most easily to me was definitely looking up and defining the unknown biological terms, which was a great exercise since it improved my knowledge of the paper vastly.
  2. The aspect of this assignment that proved most challenging was understanding and explaining the figures especially since the paper was very dense. While this task was very time consuming by looking up the terms I was eventually able to understand the complex biological terms and equations that were a part of each figure.
  3. I am still having some difficulty understanding the full significance of the figures. While I was able to interpret what the figures are displaying, I do not understand the full implication of the results.

Lauren Kelly Reflection Questions

Lauren M. Kelly

  1. The aspect of this assignment that came most easily to me was defining the terms that I was unfamiliar with. I enjoyed learning 10 new terms, and it also made the paper easier to understand.
  2. The aspect of the assignment that was the most challenging for me was the outline of the methods. I found it difficult to find ways to make it clear and concise while also including all of the important parts of the paper. I also struggled to find ways to put more complex explanations into my own words.
  3. I do not yet understand exactly how to interpret figures. Every one is different, and it always takes me longer than I would like to figure out what each part of the figure means and how they relate to one another.

Conor Keith Reflection Questions

  1. The aspects of this assignment that came most easily to me were the figures. The article was difficult to read for me, but the figures made the results much easier for me to understand.
  2. The most challenging parts of the assignment for me were the abbreviations and technical words. For a lot of the article it felt like I was just reading random letters. I had to read paragraphs while constantly referring to the figures to keep up.
  3. I still don't understand how the In vitro activity levels for the enzymes in figure three were quantified.

Cameron M. Rehmani Seraji Reflection Questions

Cameron M. Rehmani Seraji

  1. The aspect of the assignment that came most easily to me was defining the terms. I chose the terms I did so that I would better be able to understand what the paper was talking about. Some of the words I have heard before, but I did not know the exact definitions.
  2. The aspect of the assignment most challenging to me was understanding the methods of the experiment. The methods contained many specific details and it difficult to understand what the main concept was from each of the three sections.
  3. I still do not understand the how the northern analyses were performed and what the results from that section of the study mean.

Margaret J. ONeil Reflection Question Responses

Margaret J. ONeil

  1. The aspect of the assignment that came the easiest to me was reading and interpreting the figures. The multiple plots on a single figure helped me better visualize the relationships between biomass and limiting factors, and the different expressions of genes in response to the ammonia concentration
  2. The aspect of the assignment most difficult for me was wading through the methods and results to determine what was relevant to put in my methods section of my outline and what wasn't. Also getting the assignment in on time was challenging this week as evidenced by my time stamp on everything due to poor planning on my part.
  3. I still don't totally understand why different genes were used to detect the amount of the RNA present for the Northern analyses.
