Antifungal selection

There are many antifungal selection markers that are reported in the literature; two that I have used so far are carboxin and hygromycin B. Though carboxin is cheaper than hygromycin B and hygromycin B requires careful handling and safety precautions, I routinely use hygromycin B (>100µg/mL) because it is widely used for other fungi.
A general note for working with fungi and antifungals: when larger amounts of biomass or tissue are placed under selection the fungus will sometimes exhibit a short period of growth.
