Task 1
After running the NCBI Blast, I received the following results:
NT_030059.12 Homo sapiens chromosome 10 genomic contig, reference assembly NW_924884.1 Homo sapiens chromosome 10 genomic contig, alternate assembly (based on Celera assembly)
Additionally, the flanking proteins are:
- 3895 bp at 5' side: hypothetical protein
- 425 bp at 3' side: HtrA serine peptidase 1
There is a point mutation at bp 201 (A-T -> A-G).
The reading frame containing the ATG start codon has the mutation changing the amino acid from a CAG to CGG (Glutamine to Arginine). Glutamine is polar and neutral, and Arginine is also polar and strongly basic (they are both hydrophilic).
Laymen's terms: the mutation probably will not do any harm (i.e. don't worry).
