Today we ground rose petals and rose leaves in liquid nitrogen with a motar and pestle. We also Followed the DNeasy Plant mini protocol to extract DNA from both the petals and leaves. The extracted DNA and extra ground-up petals and leaves were placed in the -80 degrees celsius cooler for future use. Next lab we plan on running an agarose gel electrophoresis in order ensure DNA was successfully extracted from the rose plant. We will use the gel electrophoresis protocol that we found.
