Objective

  • set up dual pump
  • try to form beads

Description

  1. set-up the same as 9/21/18:
  • Used syringe to join peek tubing
  • Determine the rate of the glutaraldehyde needed to have a 2:1 ratio with PVA
  • Determine the length of Tygon tubing at which glutaraldehyde and PVA mix for at least 5 minutes

Data

  • Pump set-up

  • New rates:
    • Red pump: 0.01 mL/min
    • Grey pump: 0.02 mL/min
  • Recalculated Length:
    • V= pi*r^2*l
    • 0.01 mL/min * 5 min) = 3.14 * 0.00158 cm^2 * l
    • 0.05 mL / (3.14 * 0.00158) = l
    • l = 10.078 cm

Notes

  • Previous calculation was off by a factor 10 so we increased the length to 101 cm instead for this second trial.
  • Epoxy used to connect PEEK tubing and Tygon to prevent leaking.
  1. Polymer beads formed in ethyl acetate
