I got suckered into the idea that molecular biology was really cool, came to MIT, met some folks, decided it still was

Current Project

Expression of carotenoids in E. coli

DeLong Lab, MIT
I am introducing genes for biosynthesis of retinal, beta-carotene, and lycopene. Strains producing these compounds will be used for screening a small-insert library for carotenoid-modifying activity. Retinal production will also be used for expressing the proteorhodopsin photosystem in E. coli to generate ATP as a tool for metabolic engineering applications.

Past Projects

DNA assembly

Codon Devices, Inc., Cambridge, MA
Developed a ligation-based method for assembly of large sequences of DNA.

M13 library

Belcher Lab, MIT
Created a library of M13 bacteriophage with varying p3 and p8 coat proteins for screening against quantum dots, magnetic nanoparticles, and tumor cells.
