My name is Bill Flanagan. I'm the Senior Technology Developer at OpenWetWare. I'm located at MIT in the Department of Biology, Endy Lab. My background is in building online collaboration systems.

I look forward to learning how biologists do your work. I'll do as much as I can to translate what I learn into programs and systems that make OpenWetWare more useful to all of you.

Thanks!

Bill Flanagan

Current Projects

UMS

Upgrade the current User Management System. The software works well but is in need of some "under the hood" work to integrate it more closely into OWW's underlying MediaWiki software.

DNASis SmartNote

MiraiBio has introduced a free lab notebook on their site free for all users. You can check it out at http://smartnote.miraibio.com. It's well worth checking out.

SmartNote is a real Web 2.0 application. It relies heavily on Javascript using the Dojo.js Javascript library for much of its interaction. It has many "snap-in" tools for doing analysis of DNA sequences. One of the nice features it has is a genome annotation tool. I'm particularly interested in people's reactions to this particular feature. This is their cntact info:
