Our Research

Our research in the Barnes Lab focuses on using synthetic biology and computational methods across a range of areas. In general, we aim to make biology more 'engineerable', predictable and robust. Some of the projects which we have studied are listed below.

Current Projects

Below are some of examples of projects that are currently in progress:

  • Computational Approaches for Controlling Mixed Microbial Communities --
  • Computation Using Patterning of Bacterial Colonies --
  • Engineering the Microbiome for Therapeutic and Diagnostic Applications --

Previous Projects

Here are some of the previous projects, which have been worked on by past members of the lab:

  • Construction of Therapeutically Relevant Bacterial Biosensors
  • Computational Design and Characterisation of Synthetic Gene Switches
