UV Vis Silver Round 1

pH 4 - 12, Fructose 0 mM, 0.0625 mM

Solutions

  • prepared solutions with HCl, which made our samples ph 4 - 6 useless (AgCl forms and precipitates)

we discarded pH 4 - 6 solutions and only measured absorbance for pH 7 - 12. Observations: all except pH 12 show precipitates. only pH 12 is a homogeneous, slightly orange solution.

volumes and concentrations used:

Fructose = 0.0 mM

Fructose = 0.0625 mM

we prepared pH 4 - 6 again, with HNO3

The above screen - shotted spreadsheet can be found in the Dropbox under "AG Stock Solution Calculation Template"

We finished the UV Vis on Wednesday.

Results

The above chart shows the UV-Vis spectra for [Fructose]=0 mM, [Ag]=0.25 mM. Nanoparticles were only formed for pH 4, 11, and 12. All other pH solutions formed a cream colored precipitate, and did not appear to form nanoparticles from the spectra.

The above chart shows the UV-Vis spectra for [Fructose]=0.0625 mM, [Ag]=0.25 mM. As with 0 mM fructose, nanoparticles were only formed for pH 4, 11, and 12. All other pH solutions formed a cream colored precipitate, and did not appear to form nanoparticles from the spectra.

The absorbance at 530 nm is shown above for [Fructose]=0 mM, [Ag]=0.25 mM. As expected, solutions that did not form nanoparticles have an absorbance of ~0.
