Objectives

  • Mary teach two people her polymer bead synthesis
  • Kinetics and thermodynamics of activated carbon
    • Define mass of zeolite/activated carbon: 0.1 g
    • Define time measurement intervals: BEM & MJJ do every 5 minutes for first hour, take 15 and 45 min mark for second hour; MA & AMT do 3 minutes (for first) then 5 from there, take 30 and 60 min mark for second hour
  • Make stock MG solution
    • 10 mL 20 ppm
    • 15 vials

Procedures

Activated Carbon Kinetics Measurements

  • 0.1 g activated carbon absorbed all 20 ppm MG initially
  • 0.01 g activated carbon absorbed all 20 ppm MG after ~10 min
  • Filter setup, trials to be completed Friday
