Feb 4- Coatings and DSC

Objectives

  1. Put the aluminum plate in the oven on temperature 85C for two hours
  2. Increase temperature to 135C for two more hours
  3. Repeat the synthesis from Friday, 30th of January, 2015
  4. Start a new synthesis, without the titanium dioxide
  5. Analyze DSC Data

TiO2/Epoxy Film Synthesis

  1. measure 3.03450 and 3.04546 g of JD-400
  2. add 5.52087 and 5.86469 g of the epoxy
  3. add 0.84646 and 0.86432 g of TiO2
  4. let stir for 5 minutes with temperature of 85C
  5. reduce the temperature to 60C for another 10 minutes.
  6. transport the mixture into an aluminum dish
  7. Let it sit in room temperature till next lab section.

Epoxy without TiO2 present Synthesis

  1. measure 3.03840, and 3.07631 g of JD-400
  2. add 5.53123 and 5.65516 g of the epoxy
  3. let stir for 5 minutes with temperature of 85C
  4. reduce the temperature to 60C for another 10 minutes.
  5. transport the mixture into an aluminum dish
  6. Let it sit in room temperature till next lab section.

DSC Results

  • Figure 1. DSC results for Ti)2 coating before curing.
  • The Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)analysis gave us the following information
  1. Curing for TiO2 coatings begins at 66.51 degrees Celsius, the upper limit was 74.53 and the lower limit was 58.49 degrees Celsius
  2. The maximum curing temperature was at 120 degrees Celsius
  3. The system takes an average of 196.45 J/g of energy, the upper limit was 201.6 and the lower limit was 191.3
