Making Hydrogels

  • Six different hydrogels were made using three different molecular weights of poly(vinyl alcohol)
    • 130,000 MW
      • 2g:10mL ratio; 6.010 g total for 30mL solution
        • mixed and heated until homogeneous, put in freezer at 11:15AM
      • 0.5g:10mL ratio; 1.4995 g total for 30mL solution
        • mixed and heated until homogeneous, put in freezer at 2:00PM
    • 89,000-98,000 MW
      • 2g:10mL ratio; 5.9956 g total for 30mL solution
        • mixed and heated until homogeneous, put in freezer at 11:40AM
      • 0.5g:10mL ratio; 1.501 g total for 30mL solution
        • mixed and heated until homogeneous, put in freezer at 11:30AM
    • 31,000-50,000 MW
      • 2g:10mL ratio; 5.9907 g total for 30mL solution
        • mixed and heated until homogeneous, put in freezer at 12:25PM
      • 0.5g:10mL ratio; 1.5006 g total for 30mL solution
        • mixed and heated until homogeneous, put in freezer at 12:35PM

Hydrogel Infused with Protein and Gold

  • Four different hydrogels infused with 17 μM BSA protein and 2.5 mM gold were made using three different molecular weights of poly(vinyl alcohol)
    • 0.5g solutions
      • 0.5051g of 130,000 MW poly(vinyl alcohol), 8.08mL of water; 1mL of protein and 1mL of gold added after homogeneous gel was made
        • put into the oven at 3:10PM
      • 0.5002g of 89,000-98,000 MW poly(vinyl alcohol), 8.00mL of water; 1mL of protein and 1mL of gold added after homogeneous gel was made
        • put into the oven at 2:00PM
      • 0.5001g of 31,000-50,000 MW poly(vinyl alcohol), 8.00mL of water; 1mL of protein and 1mL of gold added after homogeneous gel was made
        • put into the oven at 3:50PM
    • 1.6g solution - 31,000-50,000 MW poly(vinyl alcohol)
      • 1.6002g poly(vinyl alcohol), 8.00mL water; 1mL of protein and 1mL of gold added after homogeneous gel was made
        • put into the oven at 3:30PM
