  • A powerful method for learning the ropes of bioinformatics is by examining your own DNA sequence. This project is meant to be a resource for DIYbio-ers and other interested parties to cheaply sequence the variable regions of their mtDNA, process the sequence and then use the various tools out there (some more complex than others) to analyze it.

  • mtDNA extraction protocol
  • PCR protocol
  • PCR product purification
  • Sending off for sequencing

  • I have my sequence, now what?
  • Genealogical Analysis
  • Medical Diagnoses
  • Tools available on the interweb
