Numbers

  • length distribution of PG disaccharide in E.coli..mean 25-35 units (1-72)..range up to 80 units (1-80)
  • length distribution of PG disaccharide in B.subtilis..range up to 100 units (1-201)
  • length distribution of PG disaccharide in S.aureus..mean 3-10 units..range up to >23-26 units (1-14)
  • fraction of E.coli stem peptide in PG which is part of the cross link: 40-60% (1-5)
  • fraction of B.subtilis stem peptide in PG which is part of the cross link: 56-63% (1-63)
  • fraction of S.aureus stem peptide in PG which is part of the cross link: 90% (1-207)..possibly due to long gly chains
  • PG thickness for gram negative: 1-3 layers
  • PG thickness for E.coli (gram negative): 80% 1 layer, the rest are up to 3 layer (1-200)
  • PG thickness for gram positive: >10-20 layers
