Objective

  • To make more fibers for further tests.
  • To update data for the effect of time on AuNP solution.

Description

Synthesizing AuNP Fiber Solution

  1. Combine 1 mL of 3.66 mM HAuCl4 and 1.27 mL of 0.0173 mM BSA in a test tube.
  2. Dilute to 10 mL with water.
  3. Place in oven at 75°C.
  4. Leave solutions in oven for 3 hr.

Updating Weekly Data

  1. Take UV/Vis of solution synthesized on 01/31/12.
  2. Update graphs of weekly data.

Data

The following graph shows the effect of time on AuNP solution (updated to week 4 from initial solution).

The following graph shows how the peak absorbance changed over time.

The following graph shows how the peak wavelength shifted over time.

Notes

After consistent increases from the previous three weeks, week four showed a dramatic decrease in absorbance at the AuNP wavelength. The solution appeared clear, no longer pink/purple, and small fibers rested at the bottom of the test tube.
