Objectives

  • Redo 1, 5, and 10 min (2:1) NaMT-Fe3O4 exchange with CuSO4 because previous solutions were found to contain particulate that would likely affect the Cu+2 concentration of the solutions.
  • Analyze NaMT-CuSO4 exchange filtrate solutions with AAS.
  • Crosslink porphine films.
    • Make crosslinking fixant solutions.
    • Save the HCl and sodium bicarbonate solutions after crosslinking to analyze with UV-vis for porphine.

AAS of NaMT-CuSO4 Exchange Filtrate Solutions

  • Standards of 0.01, 0.05, 1, 2, 3, and 5 ppm Cu+2 were used to generate a calibration curve.
    • The absorbance of the 5 ppm Cu+2 did not correspond to the rest of the solutions, so that solution was discarded as a standard.

  • The following solutions were analyzed at concentrations of 7.4 and 10 ppm Cu+2 each:
    • 1 min NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
    • 5 min NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
    • 10 min NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
    • 1 min 100%CEC NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
    • 5 min 100%CEC NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
    • 10 min 100%CEC NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
    • 1 min 50%CEC NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
    • 5 min 50%CEC NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
    • 10 min 50%CEC NaMT-CuSO4 filtrate
