Objective

  1. Re-create lysozyme nanoparticles

Protocol

The creation of nanoparticles on 02/16/2016 failed because used a smaller lysozyme to gold ratio and made fibers instead, which we will now incorporate into a film. This time we are using a larger ratio in hopes to make lysozyme nanoparticles.

Lysozyme Nanoparticle Setup
100mL stock solution was made using the following steps:

  1. 3.35mg of lysozyme was added to 10mL of water in a volumetric flask (2.47M). 5 mL of the solution was then transferred to a 150mL beaker.
  2. 0.84mL of 1% by weight HAuCl4 stock solution was added (made on 01/27/2016)
  3. 94.16mL of water was added, bringing the final solution volume up to 100mL.

The solution was then covered with foil and placed in the oven for 4 hours at 80 degrees celsius.

Results

We made fibers instead of nanoparticles. Again. Next time we will double the original concentration of lysozyme to hopefully make nanoparticles.
