Glowing Mutants S286N luciferase mutant glows red. Just how red is a matter of perspective though, and pH, and temperature, and "mood" it appears... Vibrio fischeri strain Y-1 glows green, at 540 nm. Why is this so? What's the difference with wild type Vibrio fischeri?
