Folic Acid Diagnostics

  • Folic acid is not dissolving...

Having trouble with over saturation of folic acid solution. 5mL solution of 441.4g/mol Folic acid. Adding .002207g to 5mL should be under saturation point. Otherwise writing for abstract and introduction for the remainder of the period.

Folic Acid Concentration. Note that there are particles in solution which remained undissolved. Lower concentrations were therefore used.

To prepare the folic acid:

The folic acid was purchased from Sigma-Aldrich (Milwaukee, WI). The preparation of a 10 mL stock solution of 1 mM Folic Acid was used with AuCl3 solution and NaBH₄ solution in order to reduce Gold (III) to Gold (0) and create gold nanoparticles. Each time a reaction is conducted a new stock 10 mL stock solution of 1 mM Folic Acid solution was created. In order to create the stock solution, 4.41 mg of solid Folic Acid was added to a 10 mLvolumetric flask. Distilled water was then added to the line and the flask was inverted to mix.

To prepare the Sodium Borohydride:

The Sodium Borohydride was purchased from EMD chemicals (Burlington, MA). The preparation of 10 mL of 0.2% NaBH₄ solution was used as a reducing agent in order to create gold nanoparticles from a AuCl3 and Folic Acid solution. In order to create the 0.2% NaBH₄ solution, 0.02 g of NaBH₄ solid was placed in a test tube or volumetric flask and 10 mL of distilled water was added. The solution was then mixed thoroughly using a P-1000 pipette.
