Day 1: Making Amino Acids to Test Their Gold Nanoparticle Concentrations
- Today is day 1 and we are trying to use different amino acids to make gold nanoparticles. First we noted that the Hydrophilic amino acids are Serine, Threonine, and Cysteine. The aromatic amino acids are Tryptophan, Tyrosine, and Phenylalanine. The concentration of gold solution that we wanted to obtain is 1.2mM and we actually got 1.257mM. The amount of HAUCl4 that we used in the solutions was 1.257mM. The amounts that we used for the amino acids in the samples was Phenylalanine (0.0010g), Tryptophan (0.0013g), Threonine (0.0013g), Tyrosine (0.0013g), Serine (0.0013g), Cysteine (0.0013g) for the Acidic solutions. The amounts that we used for the amino acids in the samples was Phenylalanine (0.0010g), Tryptophan (0.0012g), Threonine (0.0011g), Tyrosine (0.0011g), Serine (0.0012g), Cysteine (0.0011g) for the Basic solutions. Our method was using 3mL of water to the weigh boat and then add 0.6 to get total of 3.6mL. We added an extra 15 minutes (for a total of 4 hours and 15 minutes) so that it can heat up to 80 degrees C once than are in the oven.
