Differential Scanning Calorimetry of AuNP Fibers

First, AuNP fibers were prepped in the following way. First, ten 5mL samples of AuNP fibers were transferred into five 15mL tubes (aka there were two 5mL samples per tube). The resulting tubes were then centrifuged at 4000 rpm for 5min.

Next, the four differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) samples were prepped in the following way:

  • Sample 1: AuNP fibers (3.49mg), lid and pan mass (51.37mg). Total mass = 53.73mg
  • Sample 2: AuNP fibers (4.43mg), lid and pan mass (50.80mg). Total mass = 53.74mg
  • Sample 3: AuNP fibers (3.63mg), lid and pan mass (50.71mg), Total mass = 54.44 mg
  • Control (lysozyme): Lysozyme (3.04mg), lid and pan mass (51.237mg). Total mass = 54.38mg

Sample 1 was placed in well 27 in the DSC. Samples 2, 3 and 4 were placed in wells 28, 29 and 30. The procedure for the DSC is as follows:

  • Equilibrate at 20°C
  • Ramp up to 5°C/min and to 100°C.
  • Isothermal - 3 mins
  • Ramp down to 5°C/min and to 20°C
  • Repeat (blue arrow)
  • Lastly, external event (OFF)
