<math>Pe = \frac{(Convection \, rate)}{(Diffusion \, rate)} = \frac {UL}{D}</math>
U represents linear flow velocity in a the control volume in uL, L represents the length scale of the flow in um/s and D is the diffusion constant in um<sup>2</sup>/s. This number can also be represented as a ratio of diffusive to convective time scales. The units, in a microfluidic setup, for U, L and D are um/s, um/s and um<sup>2</sup>/s respectively.
