'''The Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship BioBricks Foundation (IGERTBBF) program, supported by the National Science Foundation, ''' is a multinot-disciplinary doctoral fellowship program for students interested -profit organization founded by engineers and scientists from MIT, Harvard, and UCSF with significant experience in both non-profit and commercial biotechnology research. BBF encourages the science development and engineering responsible use of bioactive interfaces and devicestechnologies based on BioBrick™ standard DNA parts that encode basic biological functions. Faculty members involved

Using BioBrick™ standard biological parts, a synthetic biologist or biological engineer can already, to some extent, program living organisms in the IGERT same way a computer scientist can program a computer. The DNA sequence information and other characteristics of BioBrick™ standard biological parts are from made available to the Departments public free of Chemistrycharge currently via MIT's [ Registry of Standard Biological Parts].

Any individual or organization is welcome to design, improve, Chemical and Materials Engineeringcontribute BioBrick™ standard biological parts to the Registry. For example, Electrical and Computer Engineeringin the summer of 2007, Anatomy over 600 students and Neurobiologyinstructors at 60+ universities around the world are making, Molecular and Cellular Biochemistrysharing, the Center for Biomedical Engineering and the College using BioBrick™ standard biological parts as part of Pharmacy. Graduate students participating in the IGERT program receive their Ph[http://parts.Dmit. in one of these areas while benefiting from a host of multidisciplinary education and research activities in bioactive interfaces and devicesedu/igem07/index. The research program is focused around three integrative themes: Novel Bioactive Architectures, Cellphp/Protein Interactions at Interfaces, and Integration Into DevicesMain_Page International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM)] competition.
