Objective

To make polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) gels/films

Description

  1. 0.5 g and 1.0 g of PVA (MW = 130,000) were measured out.
  2. The 0.5 g aliquot was dissolved in 3 mL, while the 1 g sample was dissolved in 6 mL of water.
  3. The samples were heated and stirred to about 70°C to help the PVA dissolve.
  4. Because the PVA was not dissolving well, 2 mL of water was added to each sample.
  5. The gels were allowed to evaporate through Friday.
