Our labs applies systems and synthetic biology to problems in renewable energy, microbial physiology, and infectious diseases. We seek to identify the principles governing the design of living organisms and then apply these principles to guide the design of new and improved organisms for economic, environmental, and medical benefit. Our ultimate goal is to develop a rational design framework for engineering living organisms.

Our lab is also engineering microorganisms for the production of chemicals, fuels, and enzymes. We are specifically interested in developing genetic tools for non-model organisms.
