We have applied for some marine sediment (south China sea, North Atlantic) samples from a French environmental studies university.

Transformation Efficiency Kit

Today was the first day of Lab work taking place on floor two. We were able to test the efficiency of our competent cells using a kit supplied by iGEM. We performed transformations into our α-Select competent cells using the part BBa_J04450 DNA in pSB1C3 plasmids of three concentrations: 0.5,10 and 50pg/μL. We then plated the samples onto Agar plates containing Chloramphenicol and incubated overnight.

Outreach

We have applied for some marine sediment (south China sea, North Atlantic) samples from a French environmental studies university. If successful we will also have to use the sediments to teach a summer school class of 10 GCSE students.
