Entry title Purpose: Create 25 g cast of TiO2 1% Safety and Procedure: Normal large casting, see 6/18/14, but with 250 mL of acetone instead of 200. Experimental: Created a 25 g TiO2 cast Mass % Mass TiO2 Mass ABS 1.0% 0.2493 g 25.0014 g Added 250 mL acetone to TiO2. Sonicated from 9:25 am to 9:40 am at 23°C to 27°C. Added ABS and sonicated from 9:40 am at 23°C to 4:20 pm at 43°C. When the solution was put into the pan small ABS specks were noticed. Heated the pan at 80°C from 4:20 pm to 7:00 pm. This TiO2 is white and not tan like the previous TiO2 from the summer. TiO2 from the summer was < 100 nm large and contained 1% Mn as dopant. TiO2 for this fall is 21 nm large and does not have Mn as a dopant. Figure 1: TiO2 powder Figure 2: ABS specks left on glass after pouring into pan. Figure 3: Casting next morning
