Research and Teaching interests

My research interests are currently focused on understanding how the variability in genetic expression among single cells in a population determines the overall phenotype of the population. We work with a variety of single-molecule spectroscopic, biological labeling, and computational techniques to achieve this goal.

My teaching interests are broadly focused on helping students develop communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to apply throughout their life. I actively foster communication and collaboration between the various scientific disciplines (e.g. biology, physics, mathematics) at an earlier stage than graduate school by teaching cross-listed Biophysics classes and providing a multidisciplinary research laboratory that engages both undergraduate and graduate students.
