Idea

  • Vincent 10:45, 4 April 2007 (EDT): Hi Reshma, the link you mention is the one I browsed before posting on the Google Earth API. I agree, it seems worth a shot to look into it, and check how easy it could be to build and maintain wiki lists of spatial locations. The ability to attach to the locations links, icons or pictures is quite cool. Maybe, we should talk to the extension guys.
    • Reshma 11:44, 5 April 2007 (EDT): I don't know javascript but presumably we can get the google map to input location information from another page (i.e. a different wiki page)? This reference looks promising.
  • Reshma 10:29, 4 April 2007 (EDT): Hey Vincent. This is a good idea. I was trying to figure out if there was some way to maintain a running lab location list on the wiki and have it update the map. I noticed this page on Digg.

Outstanding issues

  1. I can't seem to get the map to use the icon specified in the KML file.
  2. The map doesn't recognize uploaded KML files or wiki KML files.
