June 1st to June 4th Amanda: Lots of reading! Found genes for lead resistance, which will probably be useless, but did lots of reading on cell surface engineering/display with metallothioneins. Meeting with Purdue team was interesting... will plan to skype conference with them every other week or so. Tom:More research - focused on reduction pathways of metals and compared reduction to cell surface engineering. After meeting with the advisers, cell surface engineering seems like the most feasible direction. Now we have to decide how to use cell surface engineering and what to do with the cells after they collect the metal.
