Transformation Efficiency Kit

Today was the first day of Lab work taking place on floor two. We were able to test the efficiency of our competent cells using a kit supplied by iGEM. We performed transformations into our α-Select competent cells using the part BBa_J04450 DNA in pSB1C3 plasmids of three concentrations: 0.5,10 and 50pg/μL. We then plated the samples onto Agar plates containing Chloramphenicol and incubated overnight. image?

Outreach

We have applied for some marine sediment (south China sea, North Atlantic) samples from a French environmental studies university. If successful we will also have to use the sediments to teach a summer school class of 10 GCSE students.

Tuesday 16th July 14.00 – 14.30 Talk about iGEM to summer school students
