Project Description/Abstract

Hydrogen has been proposed as a neurological intervention for preventing extensive brain damage due to hypoxia ischemia in the brain of infants suffering from cerebral palsy as well as birth problems leading to lack of oxygen to the cerebral tissues. Neonate rat pups will undergo BCAO, then be administered a hydrogen treatment or low levels of oxygen. Histology samples will be analyzed to determine the possible effects of such a treatment on tissue damage in the neonate brain. Behavioral characterization of said animals will be administered in order to better understand the nature of the effect these treatments on behavioral symptoms.
