Experimental Variables

Independent Variable

The independent variable for this experiment is the dosage of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) administered to the subjects.

Dependent Variable

The dependent variable in this experiment is the measure of Inflammotin present in the subject.

Study Participants

Groups

For this experiment, seven groups will be utilized. One group will be measured but not administered any LPS, one group will be given a placebo, other groups will receive either a 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 mg dose of LPS. Each group will consist of 10 subjects.

Subject Selection

Because the desired effect of the drug is inducing inflammation on the eldery, the subjects chosen for this trial will be between the ages of 60 and 65. They will be evenly split by sex and ethnicity. Subjects will also be chosen on the basis of dietary habits; these habits should be kept close between subjects. Subjects should have no preexisting conditions that will conflict with the desired measured data.

Error and Bias Considerations

Minimizing Error

To minimize error, the same lab personnel and equipment should be used in all trials where possible. The patients should be administered the drugs under controlled conditions. The patients should be maintained in a controlled environment until data has been collected satisfactorily.

Minimizing Bias

Subjects involved in the research should be involved with the company making the product. Kristen's academic success should not be contigent on affirmative or negative results from this study.
